What does it mean?

What does it mean when you go to a restaurant and when they seat you they place on your table two menus and a bottle of hand sanitizer? Does it mean that they think you are grimy and to please sanitize yourself before you touch their menus? Does it mean that the hostess has been in their kitchen and is trying to protect you from the utensils she is about to place in front of you? I can't figure it out. A huge bottle of hand sanitizer brought to your table before you order. Again, what does it mean??

Yes, Anna, you're right. I have since been informed by multiple sources (the first among them being my mother) that it was indeed a swine flu precaution. I am just that out of tune with the rest of the world.

What restaurant was it? I remember going somewhere a few months ago and they gave us hand sanitizer. Timing wise, it was before swine flu, and we did pause to question the Purell. Maybe they're just germaphobs? But you're right, it does make you question what's about to happen. ;)

You were at Cactus Grill, weren't you? They always do that there (swine flu or no swine flu). I don't know why, but they do. It can be a bit unnerving though, I will admit... but the food is so good there, I will forgive them for it. My guess is that they have someone who works there who is a germaphobe and thought it was a good idea.

Andrea, you are so right. At least I think you are. Ask Rob where it was. It was a Mexican restaurant on Metcalf and 130 something. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it.
