Bennett and Will are not impressed

Maybe I took them to too many shows at this really great children's theatre in Kansas City. Maybe they were spoiled by the production values at Disney. Or maybe when they go to a live show they expect more than an old guy singing alone on a stage to a CD of kids songs for 45 minutes.

Or maybe that's just me.

But when our preschool sent home a note saying that the school would be taking a field trip to a children's concert, the musical theatre lover in me volunteered to chaperone in a nanosecond. I didn't expect Broadway. I didn't even expect Branson. But I did think there might be, oh, I don't know, costumes? Maybe 7 or 8 singers and dancers? Would it be stretching it to expect live music?

Nope. There was just one guy. One. He was about 55 ish. He was from Florida and looked like he had spent his morning hanging out on the beach with his metal detector. He had one microphone and a CD player. And he stood stationary at the microphone for 45 minutes and sang along to a CD while incorporating a few hand guestures.

I am not kidding.

And none of this would have mattered if the kids loved it. And most did. This is a somewhat grainy shot I took of all the other kids standing up and clapping and dancing with said beach bum.

And here are my kids.

I can't believe this is happening.

Is this really my life right now?

Over it.

I have taught them well.

Bratty Jillian is sitting next to me while I read this. Telling me she doesn't like reading our blogs because we moved away from her. Mature, no?
