Fall Fun and the Worst Cakewalk Ever!

Last weekend was one of those weekends that was picture perfect. The weather was gorgeous, we spent the weekend enjoying fall festivals, I made pumpkin muffins, and Alabama beat Florida. Yup. It doesn't get much better in my book.

We began the weekend by attending the Leawood Fall Festival on Friday night. Our evening started off wonderfully. The kids had their faces painted and had fun on all of the inflatables.

I forgot socks and this was the result. Check out Black Foot sliding down the big slide.

****Side Note*** My son has no fear. At all. He has been going down these huge slides since he was 20 months old. No fear, I say.

Will's best friend Rachel joined us for the fun. Will loves being with her, except when he's afraid that she's checking out his food.

Nothing says Fall more than having your dinner on a haybale.
I have absolutely no idea who this is supposed to be, but if it's in a costume, we'll take a picture with it.
We went on a fun hayride, played more on the inflatables, and then it was time for the cakewalk. The cakewalk that will haunt me for the rest of my life. We didn't get any pictures of  what went down at the beginning, so let me explain. This was Bennett's first cakewalk and it was quite possibly our introduction to her competitive spirit. She was crushed when she didn't win. Crushed! So we tried a 2nd time and then a 3rd. She was sobbing. And then she got angry. This was a picture of a very ticked off Bennett on her 4th try.
She didn't win that time either. So we brought in the reinforcements. We forced her brother and her friend Rachel to join. Increase the odds, right? You can't really tell in this picture, but she had been bawling just prior to this shot. There's Will in front of her and Rachel behind trying to support a friend. It didn't help.

She didn't win that time either. So here comes parent dilemma #526. Do we make her quit and teach her that winning isn't everything and that it was fun just to participate? Or do we let her go on and teach her that sometimes you have to work hard and keep trying for what you want? Or does her super competitive mother keep pushing her until she wins? What do you think happened?

On try #8.......... TA DA!
I cannot tell you how happy this made her.
And seriously, I was about to sneak out to the dang grocery store and spend 5 bucks on a cake so we could leave, but the look on her face when they called her number was priceless. Rob and I still aren't sure if they rigged it to get rid of us or not, but who cares?

Our family was so happy that we stayed for the big movie they were showing on the lawn. It was a great evening.

The next morning we woke up ad drive to Weston, Missouri. Oh my goodness, what a great town. I have to go back there some day when there aren't a ton of people there for a Fall Festival. I want to go and just soak in the quaint little town with the adorable main street and rich history. I absolutely loved it. We got there early to watch the parade.

The parade was so much fun to watch, but by far the best float was the random float with middle aged men playing Middle Eastern music. In the middle of Missouri. I don't know why. But they were all kinds of awesome.

Here are some other shots from our morning in Weston.

After spending the morning in Weston, we stopped off at the Big Red Barn which is a pumpkin patch, apple orchard, petting zoo, and so much more all rolled into one. We were hungry so lunch was a priority.
And then Bennett decided to check out the pumpkins. She was quite impressed with the selection.

And then what did we do next? Come on, we're Websters. We rode horses of course. Check out the size of the one Bennett got to ride. This was her biggest horse yet. That's me waving in the background. In case you needed me to explain that. Doesn't she look like awesome riding this horse? I was so proud of her.
And guess who else got to ride? Will got to ride the little pony. He looked SO cute in his little helmet.

What a fun place and what a fun day!

And then we came home to eat freshly made pumpkin muffins and watch this-
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!! What a perfect weekend!

I'm sorry, but I can't help but laugh at the cake story! My parents have a similar one about Drake (Kyle/Caroline's youngest) have the meltdown of all meltdowns at his soccer game b/c he didn't start and they were not winning in the first quarter of the game. I'm also VERY jealous that you can wear jeans. And was that a scarf? Still in shorts, tank tops and flip flops here. I wouldn't care, but when you wake up and it's 50 degrees it's just a mean tease. Love you and you better let me know when you come back here for a visit!!
